7 Things Successful People Do

Have you ever wondered how people become successful?

Some seem to have it easy, like everything they do is a success.

It may even give the impression that these people are just born with the success gene, if there’s such a thing.

However, the fact is that success is not genetic. People are not born with it; they achieve success through long, hard work. And while there is no prescription for success, successful people share common behaviors and characteristics.

Here are just seven of them that you can start applying in your life to achieve success like they do.

#1—Successful People Make a Game Plan

Successful people don’t rely on luck to make sure their undertakings are a success. From the beginning, they make plans and set it in motion in order to get to where they are now.

If you just jump into something without a plan in mind, you will most likely not reach your desired destination. Getting somewhere in life and in business involves planning, and more importantly, action. Taking the time to sit down and lay out your plan will play a huge part in your success in life and business.

A goal without a plan is just a wish. And wishing to be successful won’t do you any good.

#2—Successful People Don’t Work Just to Work

Most people call going to a day job every day to earn money as “work.” They do this every single day, from 9 to 5, until retirement, just to keep food on the table. However, when you go to work for reasons other than money, you work with passion, and towards “Mastery” and “Purpose.”

Almost all successful people do the things they do not just for the money involved, but more importantly, for a certain purpose, and with a lot of passion and enthusiasm, until they gain mastery over it.

When you put purpose and passion ahead of money, you will certainly obtain success in life, however, you define it.

Doing something you’re passionate about involves a lot of your time; in most cases, you may not even earn from it at the beginning. You just do it for the love of doing it. This is where practice and patience comes into play until you can master whatever your passions are.

Successful people have gone to work and failed at their tasks, but to them, the work they were doing didn’t feel like work for them at all, it felt like a gift, the gift of challenge and perseverance to learn more and become a master at what they’re doing.

If you are doing something now that you are passionate about, even if it doesn’t earn much money, keep at it. When you are doing something you truly love, you will feel happier and more fulfilled.

#3—Successful People Have True Passion and Drive

Successful people don’t become who they are because they just waited for a bag of money to drop onto their lap. It’s not enough as well to just have a job in order to pay your bills, although, of course it is also important. What really matters is having passion and drive for something.

If you do the things you do for money only then you will never truly be successful no matter how rich you get, unless money is the be all and end all of your life. Indeed, success isn’t measured by wealth or by the possessions you have. Success is measured by your accomplishment of an aim or purpose.

If asked, most successful people today would choose many other things over money. For instance, they would mention that their health is more important, or friends, family, and maybe their beloved dog or cat. After all, what good is all the money in the world if you don’t have your health or if you don’t have people who love you?

Ask yourself this: if you were on your deathbed and someone gave you a choice of whether to be healthy again or to be the richest person in the world, what would you choose? To be rich? Or to be healthy and alive? For me, it’s a clear choice. I would definitely choose life over money.

Do what makes you passionate and it will take you further than you had ever thought possible!

#4— Successful People Never Make Excuses

If failure happens, and it usually occurs to everybody, what do you do? Do you accept it as your responsibility or do you make excuses for it? If all you do is make excuses about everything that happens in your life, you definitely won’t get anywhere. Negativity and not taking accountability for your actions only leads to frustration.

Your best chance to becoming successful is to know what you want and make your own choices. If it fails, take responsibility for it and learn from it.

Do not try to make decisions based on what other people are saying. If everyone around you, for example, is trying to convince you that being a lawyer is what’s right for you when your passions align with being a health coach, you might want to think twice about being a lawyer and you better call Saul Goodman, he will set you straight.

My point here is that if you want to become successful, you need to do things that you truly have a passion for. Otherwise you may fail and make up excuses for your failure which will only hurt you in the long run.

#5— Successful People Never Let Failure Stop Them

When I fail at something, I don’t see it as failure. I see it as an opportunity to acquire more knowledge. No one goes out and becomes a success at first try and if someone tells you that, they’re either delusional or lying. I haven’t done anything in my life right the first time and I am sure you haven’t either, but should failure stop us from trying?

The only real failure in life happens when you stop trying to do something. You can fail a million times and if you stop at a million and one, that’s where you fail. Let failure be only a way not to do something.

#6— Successful People Constantly Learn

In life we have the ability to constantly learn and grow. When you apply yourself and you try your hardest to learn, grow, create, and build within your life, things happen for you and to you.

Don’t make the excuse that you don’t have enough time, money, smarts, or anything else to keep learning new things because having a negative mindset will only make those statements true.

For starters, you can learn just about anything on the internet for free. There are millions of pages on the web where you can learn anything from cooking to a new language. Take my blog, for example. It is only one of thousands and millions of other blogs online which can help you improve yourself.

When you apply yourself, opportunities will come to you that you never thought possible.

#7— Successful People Focus on What Matters Most

Life is full of ups and downs, and what separates the successful people from the non-successful ones is that successful people keep their eye on the prize. They don’t jump from one idea to the next if the first one doesn’t work out.

As I have already said, success doesn’t happen at first try. It requires time and a lot of hard work.

It’s okay to have ideas and to stray from the path of what matters most every once in a while. However, don’t make your life all about multitasking and trying everything new that catches your attention. Stay on the path of what matters most to you because that’s how success is made.
